How to fast track projects from the shelf to the construction phase....

Why do so many expert reports on Renewable Energy get left on the shelf?
At GeniusEnergyLab, we design innovative Renewable Energy Solutions for some of the world’s most incredible buildings. However when we look at the market as a whole, one question we are consistently asked is "why do so many expert reports sit on the shelf or end up holding projects back at the early stages?"
It’s a controversial question, which needs to be addressed. Too often a lengthy and costly report is commissioned at the behest of the client’s project team, for the majority of the advice to remain unimplemented in the final scheme.
The building may get built, but with a mismatched "bit of everything" renewable element which doesn't work coherently together. It’s a frustrating situation as most consultants’ passion lies in seeing their solutions breath life into a building.
Was the report commissioned to tick a box without any intention to proceed with an actual installation of the renewable element? Who’s agenda are we working towards?
Was the commercial analysis realistic or loaded with so many contingencies it was doomed to fail? Are we outlining risk to the client in the correct way and do we need to consult with specialists ourselves to move away from the “boilerplate” culture of consulting seen in some organisations?
Who prepared the report and, porbably more importantly; who did they call to gather the information it contains?
Were the objectives of the study realistically communicated to the expert?
So how can we fast track projects from the shelf to the construction phase? At GeniusEnergyLab we have found that investing additional time coaching the client to "ask the right question" leads to a far better chance of their project progressing more quickly from the drawing board to the construction phase.
We have real world installed knowledge of how a whole building approach, leveraging the sweet spots of available renewable technologies, leads to the best possible return for the client from both a carbon and a commercial perspective.
We also approach every project as an individual and always start with the building and not the technology. There’s no doubt it leads to more empty shelves and amazing buildings.
