After spending over 20 years in the Ground Source Heat Pump industry, we reckon we have heard every question there is to ask. Below you will find some answers to commonly asked questions. What ground source heat pump services do you supply?

How long does it take to produce a design?

The time taken to produce a design is dependant on many factors, but as a rough guide the following are examples of our lead times from receipt of order to delivery. Should you have a particularly urgent requirement please speak to us and will will do our best to deliver for you.

  • Initial Geology: 1 week.

  • Prefeasibility: starting at 1 week.

  • Feasibility study: usually 2-4 weeks.

  • Detailed Design: 1-2 weeks.

What information do you need to produce a design or initial geology report?

  • Address with post code.

  • Peak heat loss (kW).

  • Annual heating load (kWh).

  • Annual domestic hot water (DHW) load (kWh).

  • Peak and annual cooling loads if applicable (kW, kWh).

  • Preferred heat pump selection if you have one and if not we can recommend.

  • If you are stuck with any of these items, please get in touch and we can help.

What information do you need to produce a feasibility study?

  • All of the above as per design and initial geology.

  • If you do not have this information, please contact us and we can assist in developing initial numbers.

  • For feasibility studies an idea of the area available on the site for energy collectors is desirable.

  • For most projects we schedule a kick off meeting via Teams, to ensure we have all the information we need to promptly progress your report.

Do you install systems and if not can you help identify specialist contractors to do the installation of my system?

  • Although we come from a contracting background we do not install systems and instead leverage our 20+ years of experience to design the best ground source heat pump systems for your requirements.

  • We have relationships with the best drillers, thermal response test (TRT) providers, heat pump manufacturers, installation companies, deep geothermal specialists, controls experts and maintenance companies.

  • We can also assist in tender development and contractor selection if required.

  • We can also provide project oversight and commissioning witnessing if required.

What can I expect to see in my report?

  • We provide many different reports and they contents are outlined in our written proposal to you.

  • Our reports are concise with no padding or boilerplate.

  • You will receive the exact information you need to achieve your goals from your system.

  • Our service doesn’t stop with an invoice and we provide unlimited design revisions as your system is installed such as additional information from your drilling company or revised building heating and / or cooling loads.

  • Our designs are warranted from £2,000,000 to £10,000,000 via our professional indemnity insurance, details of which are available on request.

How much experience do you have in designing GSHP systems?

  • Our Chief Technical Officer has been designing some of the world’s most complicated and pioneering ground source heat pump systems for over 20 years.

  • We work with the entire construction supply chain including main consultants, main contractors, heat pump manufacturers, specialist contractors, drillers, controls specialists, maintainers. You can see a graphic showing some of our customers here.

  • We come from a contracting background and have experience in avoiding the potential problems that might occur thus significantly reducing your risk by working to one of our designs.

Can you provide support for my business such as training?

  • We can train your engineers in ground loop design.

  • We can train in thermal response testing TRT.

  • There are many types of ground source systems and we produce designs for all options based on the resources available and the requirements of the building.
