RIBA 1/2

Pre-feasibility Study

This is a low cost option to outline the geological conditions at your site and to take a view of the specific profile for drilling boreholes at your location when considering a closed or open loop system. If we decide that closed loop is the best option we will provide details of the estimated number of boreholes and depth required as part of our budgetary ground loop calculations.

“Many of our clients order Geological Reports as part of their initial end user engagement process. The reports allow them to demonstrate their capability and add significant value to their proposition from the early stages of every project.”

Duncan Rae - Account Director, Genius Energy Lab

RIBA 2/3

Full Feasibility Study

A technical specialist will gather information on your project and provide you with an outline report on the feasibility of your Ground Source Heat Pump System installation.

We will determine how appropriate the technology is for your needs, application and location. We can provide feasibility advice on a range of projects and applications from a large residential, or small district heating system right up to something as ambitious as heating and cooling the world’s largest skyscrapers or the underground network of trains in London.

RIBA 4

Detailed Design & Project Support

We will provide a concise detailed design report for your project including exact borehole location, depth, drilling methodology and advice, header arrangement, heat pump selection, plant room considerations and distribution system requirements. Budgetary ground loop calculations from your Initial Geological Assessment will be enhanced and refined using in house topographical spacing algorithms in conjunction with Ground Loop Design Software (GLD) to ascertain the most efficient and cost effective drilling plan for your project.

If required we will join your project team and provide a full design pack for your project including CAD drawings. As part of this service we will attend online meetings with the project team to act as subject matter experts ensuring the smooth running of your project.

Our detailed design and project support packages are tailored to your specific requirements. One of our Technical Account Managers will provide you with access to our experts and act as a single point of contact to ensure your project runs successfully and smoothly.

Thermal Response Testing (TRT)

We can provide a Thermal Response Testing service. Measuring the precise performance of a test borehole which can later be incorporated into the wider system can be advantageous for larger projects. It informs our desktop geological analysis and gives us a set of precise performance data to inform our design. In many cases this can mean that the amount of pipework required in the energy collector can be reduced providing an overall saving on the system.

RIBA 5

Commissioning Review & Witnessing

As part of RIBA stage 5 we are often asked to provide project oversight, commissioning review and witnessing services. This usually involves a remote review of commissioning documents, however we can also visit site on the rare occasion that this is required. Please contact us for more information.

RIBA 6/7

System Trouble Shooting & Expert Witness

As experts in system design we are perfectly placed to analyse underperforming ground source heat pump systems and provide quick wins and longer term solutions to optimise running efficiency and reduce running costs. One of the key areas to consider are system controls, and Genius Energy Lab are experts in advising on the best ways to control your system for maximum efficiency, running cost reduction and carbon savings.

With over 20 years of experience in designing and installing ground source heat pump systems our Chief Technical Officer, Chris Davidson, is a resource for you to draw on should you require an expert witness. As part of our work in trouble shooting poorly designed and installed systems (by others) we can be asked to act as expert witness when compensation is being sought. Please get in touch if you have a problem and we will ensure you get the best advice available.

ESCo System Adoption Consultancy

We work with clients such as Metropolitan and critically appraise systems allowing removal of unnecessary equipment to ensure any ESCO adopted system is optimised and easy to run with reduced total cost of ownership.
